Your civic duty and responsibility

In order for the government to be effective, citizens must fulfill some duties. These are called civic duties and are required by law. Failure for members of the community to perform their civic duties will result in legal action with the possibility of being sent to prison or a fine.

Civic Duties

• Paying taxes
• Obeying laws
• Serving a on jury or as a witness
• Registering to vote

While a civic duty is required by law, a civic responsibility is not necessarily required by law but is voluntary. There there are no consequences for not performing your civic responsibilities it is stressed as socially good behavior to contribute to the common good.


Civic Responsibilities

• Voting in elections
• Signing up for the military
• Volunteering in the community
• Participating in politics

Although not listed above, reporting unfairness or injustice is an essential aspect of fullfilling your responsibility to you, your peers, your colleagues, and your fellow countrymen. This keeps a check on good goververnace, helps create or change better laws helps socity work more fairer for all.
